Thank you for visiting our classrooms technology fundraising blog. The PTA has already put together some amazing fundraising events for the year and I am here to encourage all of the parents to get involved with these events. I’m also here to inform the parents on some the things our class room needs for the upcoming year in hopes to persuade the PTA to make some essential classroom updates. While our classroom currently has most of the books and school supplies it needs, we are severely lacking in some essential classroom equipment.
I understand that many of you are concerned that your children will not be able to focus while using computers. I would respond to that concern by saying it is just as easy for a student to mismanage their time in the classroom by doodling on a piece of paper. Of course, this by itself is not a reason to buy new equipment so let me highlight a few of the many ways technology is vital part of the modern classroom.
Helping students that learn at different paces.
We can all sympathize with the fact that not all students learn at the same pace. Computers an invaluable in helping students who fall behind or need review. “When students have dialed to learn required skills, the frequently find technology-based materials more motivating and less threatening than teacher delivered instruction.” (Roblyer & Doering, 2010)
Preparation for an increased use of technology in blue collar jobs
-Many people still have the idea that blue collar jobs don’t require computer skills but in reailty blue collar jobs are becoming more and more reliant of the use of computers. For example take the job of automotive mechanic. As more and more technology and computer chips get put into cars, the job as auto mechanic becomes more and more reliant on computers and technology. (Bureau of, 19/3)
Technology based education can foster a motivation to learn in children.
Here is a video that is helpful in explaining how technology has developed over the last hundred years or so in the classroom.
The "smartboard" you saw in the video is actually one of the things we are trying to get for our classroom. It makes lesson much more interactive and I believe it would be a very effective tool in progressing through a lesson. It would be invaluable for me to be able to bring up websites and videos quickly, as opposed to having to pull up an overhead or write something out on the whiteboard. This would give me more time for review or activities. Here is a website if you would like to look into other ways that the smartboard improves a classroom.
The other main thing that would greatly improve my classroom would be a subscription for the school to the EBSCO online database. This database gives students access to thousands of different scholarly articles which will help with the students research skills. This database is used by a large portion of universities and thus would prepare the students for research at the collegiate level.
Like I said before, these thing your greatly improve your children's education. If you would like to get involved please feel free to contact me. I also strongly encourage you to attend the next PTA meeting if any of these ideas i' have had for our class room are appealing to you. Thank you for taking the time to read our classes fundraiser blog and I look forward to meeting you all at the parent teacher meeting we have scheduled later this year.
